U.S. Air Force Museum 04/03
On a cool Tuesday five members, Tom, Bob, Bill, Charlie, & Mark along with Mark's brother Tim headed off to Dayton Ohio where the amazing Air Force Museum is located. The group took two metal cars as the weather forecast was not great and did rain several times on the way home. The museum consists of multiple connected buildings that have galleries housing full size planes starting with the Early Years, moving on to WWII in building 1. Building 2 has Korean War and Southeast Asia War planes and their displays. Building 3 contains Cold War planes and displays. Going to building 4 you pass through a missile gallery that has them in an upright stance. Once in building 4 along with Presidential plane displays there are a number of research and development planes on display. Among the planes there is a B-17 which many may have seen in the Masters of the Air along with a number of planes of that era. There are just too many planes and displays to go over, best to just make your own trip to check it out. As we hiked through the buildings it was determined that no one really had enough time to read and see all of the displays. A two and possibly 3 day trip is needed to do everything justice, especially with the amount of walking needed. Everyone exceeded their personal step count during the day which was impressive. While there we had lunch in the cafe, which was reasonably priced and very good other than bob's taking a bit to cook. A fun day which will need to be done again in the future, hopefully with more members being able to go.
