COCI Western Tour - Day 1 07/12
Indy to Fort Dodge
With it being an 11 hour plus drive it was decided to break it up stopping in Ft. Dodge Iowa before getting to the Sioux Fall sign in on Tuesday. The 5 northwest members met at Tom & Nancy's on a foggy morning to start their trip to the first meeting place in Crawfordsville. The rest of the club members going met them at McDonalds. Once gassed and fed the group was on their way in overcast conditions. The first rest stop everyone got inside to only have it start pouring. Rita had stayed back and unfortunately ending up getting wet as she didn't have a fob to able to close the windows. She dried out as the day went on. That was not the only time we had rain issues as it poured going through North Western Illinois, almost to the point where you wanted to stop but there were no safe pullover for 9 Vettes. Once the group crossed into Iowa the sun started shinning and the group stopped for gas at Iowa 80 the Worlds Largest Truck Stop, and they were not kidding. It is a huge place and all enjoyed taking a break there. That still left a little over 200 miles of our nearly 500 mile first day drive. The group stayed at a Holiday Inn, so all are now much smarter. They also had a small party in the evening after a great dinner at a somewhat near by restaurant. It was a fun day for all in the 3 C8's, 5 C7's, and the lonely C6 that are trecking through out the Western states.
