Bardstown KY Trip 04/16
Wylie and Mark have been planning this trip to Bardstown for well over a month and finally got a day where everyone that wanted to could go. The weather started out cool, but extremely clear as the West siders met at Wylie's and the East siders met Mark at Kroger on Olio road with departure times of 8 for both groups. It was an uneventful trip with Wylie catching Mark at Edinburg, so we continued on without a stop to Makers Mark, getting off of I-65 just as it was backing the three lanes up. From there we got to enjoy the clean smooth roads of Kentucky, even if we were not in our Corvettes. Meeting us in the parking lot was Bill, Mark's boyhood friend, who also was the local contact for the day's trip. He is a great guy and has lots of local info, also he is a Kentucky Colonel along with Mark which is which is prestigious Kentucky governor bestowed honor. With Makers Mark our first stop several purchases were made and even the bottles 'dipped' by Tom and Randy. For those not in the know, all Makers Mark bottles are hand dipped, not done by a machine. Leaving Makers Mark the now three vehicle headed to Heaven Hill for a quick gift shop check out. We then headed to Bardstown and our lunch at Talbot Inn, which was built in 1779. We were seated in the 'new' section built in 1799, getting that info from the owners wife. While waiting for the meals she also told us more about the inn and the famous inhabitants that have passed through. These included Lincoln's family that stayed there during a land dispute trial that they lost and them moved to Indiana. Also Daniel Boone was a guest along with Jesse James. She even had a more of Jessie's stays as he had a deal with the local sheriff that he would not bother him as long as the sheriff did the same. She also had another Jessie 'tale?' about when a TV station had done a series about the "Ghosts of Bardstown" which included different stories of the town. Once it had aired, a lady that had worked the front desk at the inn asked who was that picture of? It was Jessie's and she then said that years earlier one night a man in a cowboy hat and duster had come in, not said anything, and headed upstairs and out a door to then disappear. If nothing else it was a great story that kept us entranced until the lunch was served. After lunch we headed to 4 Roses and from there to Louisville. Our first stop in town was Bourbons Bistro as we early for our reservation at Pat's Steak House. While at the Bistro the happy hour was enjoyed before heading to dinner with no pictures taken there. Once at Pat's we had a private dinning room where we were well taken care of by the great staff with enjoyable meals and then a number of stories recounted, many of them of Tom's international travels. After dinner it was an uneventful drive home getting into town a little after 10.
Ladies Luncheon at Los Agaves
Eight of the Ladies had a nice lunch while the guys were away at the former Stacked Pickle location in Westfield. The afternoon meal was setup by Cindy as this was her usual day off. They all had enjoyable Mexican fare at the recently opened restaurant along with their usual topical discussions of recent events.
