IMSA at IMS 09/17
After 10 years IMSA returned to IMS for the Battle of the Bricks WeatherTech Sportscar Championship along with all of the other classes over a three day weekend. Charlie had the suite open all three days and John along with Bill & grandson Mitch were able to go on Sunday to see the 5 classes run in the afternoon. The five classes consist of three Prototypes including GTP (Grand Touring Prototype), LM2 (Le Mans Prototype 2), & LM3 (Le Mans Prototype 3) and two GT (Grand Touring) classes of GTD Pro and GTD. What is the difference between GTD and GTD Pro? The classes differ in that GTD Pro is designed for factory-backed teams running professional drivers while GTD is centered around customer teams and a Pro/Am driver lineup. Currently the Corvette runs in GTD Pro which has the factory backed pro drivers of Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor for this 2 hour and 40 minute race. The day stayed dry even though rain had been forecasted, so rain tires had been mounted up and ready if needed. Jim Shaver was at the track too as he had enjoyed the Corvette Corral during the weekend and the additional fun activities that Chevy had. A great afternoon enjoyed by those able to go with plenty of food and drink available in the suite.
