Drive to Rick's on Veterans Day 11/11/12
Greg planned an afternoon Drive N Dine for Veterans Day. Along with the hosts Greg & Donna, those on the trip were Rich & Suzanne B, Pat & Carolyn H, Susie H & passenger Shelley N, Mel & Norma M, Randy & Sherry S, Mike & Linda T, Sarah Lee R, Wylie & Rita E, Jeff B & Charity N, Doug & Arminta I, Dick & Bonnie P, Chris & Paula, AND Bill for a short part of the drive (see below) . Greg took his usual major drive through Carmel, then up to Eagle Creek and North on Spring Mill across 206th street and South on Mule Barn where Bill in 'Ruby' met up with the group. After the hose failure with several of the members stopping to assist the remaining group, less the '70, got back together and headed for more back roads on the way to Rick's Boathouse. There was even a point where Greg was asking for directions to Rick's, which fooled a portion of the group that had not been in that part of the usual circuitous route to Rick's. Everyone had a great lunch and much to talk about after the excitement of the day's drive. The season is winding down, what a way to go out of 2012 on a true Indiana Indian Summer Day of sun and 60's.

Bill had picked up 'Ruby' for the afternoon from Rick's the shop that restored it and was planning on testing out a new shift kit that had just been installed. He was unable to get to Greg's in time to leave with the group so intercepted them North of SR32 on Mule Barn Road. Turning around in a driveway, and jumping into the middle of the South bound line, all was going well until making the West bound turn on to SR32. While 'testing' the shift points of the shift kit a heater hose let go at around 5000 RPM. There was a great cloud of steam and Bill pulled over to see what had let go. It later turned out that Rick's helper had decided that the hose looked good and had not replaced as requested, which then failed under the pressure of the higher output water pump at high RPM. Since Erika was not along for the drive Bill was able to call her for assistance of 'grey tape' and antifreeze. He was able to repair it enough to get the less than 10 miles home. Once there repairs were made to get it back to Rick's for replacement of that hose and the other heater hoses that had been replaced will be upgraded too. Thanks to all who stopped to assist Bill, including Mike & Linda, Randy & Sherry, Wylie & Rita (not a good first view of Ruby), Dick & Bonnie and anyone else that he may have missed. But fortunately only being around 10 miles from his house it was not an issue to get it back there with Erika's and Grandson Mitchell's help. Also thanks to the group that came by Bill & Erika's house after the drive to see what had happened and commiserate.
Note to Greg from Bill ... pictures were not taken at the side of the road as he didn't want to get antifreeze on the camera buttons!!
