2016's First Drive to Rick's
On Thursday, June 2ND, the Retiree & Hooky Player crowd rode again... out of a beautiful blue sky they came and their names were Greg & Donna Bowron, Susie Hale & Terry Sitzer, Keith Riley, Mike & Janet Labanz, Jerry & Betty Hollan, Alan & Judy Carnahan, Jimmie & Donna Driscoll, Rick Miller and John & Judy Gersting. The team met at Greg & Donna's for some refreshments and conversation and then strapped themselves in their gleaming colored chariots and hoofed it north towards Carmel and the Village of West Clay. After a brief spin around a few roundabouts and checking out some home architecture the explorers headed west towards Zionsville and then south to pioneer some near abandoned roads by Eagle Creek. It was the first outing of the year from Williams Lane and the caravan introduction to some of the crew so the group made a few unscheduled pull overs to let metal cars escape the trap they had been teased into when the gaps were stretched a little too far. No matter, it was a gorgeous day and everyone seemed to enjoy the cruise. All was going well until that distress radio call went out... "Greg, how far is it to the nearest gas station?" (Note to Dick Pacetti, aka President of the Outta Gas Club, expect a new member soon!) Fortunately he had watched the recent Indy 500 race so he immediately dropped to the back of the pack and started drafting to conserve fuel. Apparently no one had told him that when Greg says "we'll take a short drive" that means a 1/4 tank of gas might not cut it. (Note to Bill Lapham, you should maybe include this in your new member website tips.) ((Bill's Note to Greg: Don't forget to mention the Full Tank requirement in the announcement email when you do a drive)) After our tour of the west boonies was over the group headed to Rick's Boatyard where they had reserved the usual long white table for the Corvette Indy team and the group enjoyed some good food, conversation and laughter and the beautiful weather as they lunched outside on the deck. After lunch the newest inductee to the "Outta Gas Club" who had been driving with the Low Fuel light illuminated for "quite a while" did make it to a gas station with another club member following "just in case".
A great way to start June and looking forward to many more fun Drive N Dines this year!
