Vettes for Vets & Route 66 Diner
A dozen Corvette Indy members made the trip to Lafayette for the Second Annual Vettes for Vets Region Event. The club had seven caravan together and met two other Corvettes at the event. Those attending were Bill L, Jim N, Jack H, Greg T, Jim & Bonnie S, Susie H & Terry S, and Jeff B & Charity made up the caravan and we met John & Marge H and their grandson (carefully driving his grandfathers C4) at the Tippecanoe County Amphitheater, where a total of 84 Corvettes assembled for the short trip to the Indian Veterans Home. IN 43 was blocked off by police and a quick trip was made to the Vets Home up their switch back driveway to the circle drive where the cars were put on display for the residents. The event is held to get needed items for the residents of both personal and general use. There was a bucket for cash donations, in which Bill dropped the club's $100 gift, there were also many laundry carts to collect the non cash items, which included DVDs, DVD players, Coffee Pots, and other items from all of the attendees. While there the cars were put on display for residents and music was played by a DJ. A food truck was there too, for those that needed to have lunch. Jim N was taking a pole on what should be purchased in a C7, and trying to get as many committed to purchasing as he can. GM will have no problems selling the cars if the group at the event are any indication. The main question was if one should get the Z51 package or not, and what color it should be.
The members that had caravaned together had a reservation at the Route 66 diner a few miles away, so held off eating until then. Once we arrived at the diner we had a great lunch with the usual discussion including Susie joking about her asking Jeff to help her take her top off, since Greg B wasn't there. Jeff had responded with 'which one?'. Some additional comments were made about that and then Susie said that Don had always helped, with Terry interjecting that 'he would hope so!' This brought out another round of laughter and Susie's face getting as red as her car. Lunch was good and several topped the burgers off with Apple pie Ala-mode, with Jeff and Charity trying the root beer cake with ice cream.
For a day that had threatened rain we only had a few drop while leaving the diner and soon drove away from them and back to a dry Indy.
