I Was There in 2014

Members singly attend many events throughout the year.
This page has a brief description of the event and at least one picture to "Prove It Happened"

Indianapolis Auto Show
On December 29 several Corvette Indy members headed to the show to hopefully see new models but were somewhat disappointed with the many marques that still were touting their 2014 offerings. Fortunately Chevy had a 2015 Tiger Shark Gray Coupe to look at and be appreciated by the guys.

Jeep Tires
On November 29 Corvette Indy Member Bill R headed to the West side of Indianapolis to visit Levi at the Lafayette Road Discount Tire location to get his Jeep ready for Winter. Bill's comments when he sent the picture in were "
Levi was so awesome. Really enjoyed buying the tires from him".
Other club members also agree with Bill on Levi's service when they have purchased tires from him.

Ticker Tuneup
On November 18 member Bill R came home from a visit to I U Methodist hospital for a 'Ticker Tuneup' better know as a pacemaker maintenance procedure. Everything went well and both he and wife Cheryl thank club members for their well wishes and will be out and about soon.

Bonge's Fine Dinning
On a cold fall evening 5 Corvette Indy couples headed to Perkinsville off of SR 13 near Anderson for great food at Bonge's Tavern. Two of the couples Jim & Bonnie S and Randy & Sherry S had been there many times before while Jim & Shelly N, Bill & Erika L, and club restaurant reviewers Jim & Judy A had never eaten there, let alone be in Perkinsville. The restaurant has a lot of history and interesting fare. During the summer months they even allow tailgating in their parking lot. The roads too the location are fun to drive, but the parking lot is gravel and tight, so not a Corvette destination if full. For more info click on the link below:

Mooresville on a Friday Evening
Butch & Tammy along with granddaughter Araya headed to the Mooresville Village on Friday September 26.
Araya can be seen checking one of the hot rods out.

Sign & Drive
On Friday, September 19th, Greg & Donna Bowron, Dick & Bonnie Pacetti and Lynn Poirier drove their Vettes to the American Legion in Carmel to look at the dining room for the Christmas dinner. While there they contracted for 106 members that have signed up for the Christmas Dinner scheduled for Saturday, December 6th. The doors will open at 6pm and dinner will start at 7pm. There will be a cash bar in the room. Dinner will be Lemon Peppered Chicken and Beef Stroganoff as the two entrees with Italian Roasted Potatoes, Green Beans, Salad and Dinner Rolls with an assortment of pies for dessert. Lemonade, tea and coffee are included in the $13 per meal price.
Should be another good time!
Afterwards they caravan their Vettes to Charleston's at 146th & US31 for lunch because you can't schedule a meal without getting hungry!

Itasca IL on a Saturday Evening
Rich P is still making his swing of Illinois hot car spots on Saturday nights.
On September 6 he was in
Itasca at the Bouna Beef location with the following comments:  Go Irish!  The guy I work with is from Ohio State.  Guess which two teams he hates the most, Michigan and Notre Dame.  After OSU’s loss yesterday it’s going to be a fun last two days with him…

Saturday Night in Mt. Prospect IL
Rich P was there on Saturday August 30
M

Beach Boys Concert
Symphony on the Prairie.
Bill & Cheryl R were there on Saturday Evening  8/23.
Unfortunately rain hampered the show, but the original members still played on.
Downtown Lombard IL on a Saturday night
Rich P sent n the following pictures and notes on Saturday Aug 16
And I was there!   Not at the anniversary party!
A Lingenfelter modified C5, Barnet is the owner his motto is “Stock is just the starting point.”
Thought Greg would approve.  Wish I had been there tonight, can’t wait to see all the pictures.
PS. Barnet was a two time president of Chicagoland North Corvette Club, my old club.  What is it about Corvette club presidents and modified C5’s?

Downtown Wheaton IL on a Friday night.

Rich Peters sent these pictures to prove "he was there"
Looks like a fun event.
Trader Point Grand Prix of Indianapolis
On Sunday August 10 Bill and Erika went to see horsepower of a different kind as they attended the 37th Annual Traders Point Horse Show and County Fair. They were able to see the $75000 Annual Grand Prix of Indianapolis, with 25 competitors in this year's event. This is sort of an autocross for horses, as there are jumps and a lot of turns in a course that must be remembered by the horse and rider. Out of the 25 only 3 were able to make clean rounds with no fences down and no time faults as the course also has a set amount of time to be done in. For the jump off round the course is reset and basically the best time with the least amount of faults wins the overall prize. Two horses made clean rounds, with the third pulling out after a quick rail being knocked down. A fun afternoon for an event of a different kind, which was a lot of fun for Erika as she did show jumping in college, and has always had a fondness for it.

Albright's Visit
On their trip out west John & Diana visited Gene and Carol Champney.
This was at the Champney's retirement home in Utah.
They reported that the couple is doing great and say 'Hi' to everyone in the club.

Also while there John & Diana gave the former members 25th Anniversary Patches which they were thrilled to get and will add to their Corvette Indy Jackets, which they still wear.

Animals and all the Jazz
On the evening of July 24 Bill & Erika L headed to the Indianapolis Zoo to meet their daughter's family along with a couple of their grandson's friends to see the free Jazz show put at the Zoo on Thursday evenings. Before heading to the show, they went to the bird area to look at the beautiful tropical birds living there. The jazz show was very good, with the grandson and two friends having a great time dancing and swinging to the music.

Bowling Green - National Corvette Museum & Corvette Factory Visit
Pat H sent the following in: A few of us made a trip to Bowling Green last Friday, 7/11/14.  We took a factory tour and spent the afternoon at the NCM.  Those attending were Pat H., Barry R., Bill B. and friend Sherry, and former members Randy W. and Gary S.  We had a great tour of the factory and got to see the C7 being produced.  Unfortunately, no free samples.  After lunch, we went across the street the NCM.  The first thing we noticed we the 8 new C7s lined up for Museum Delivery.  We witnessed two of the cars being picked up.  Very Nice. The big feature of course was the "hole".  They had a barricade around it of course, but we got several good pictures, but they don't really do it justice.  It is one of those things that need to be seen in person.  In another room of the Museum, they had all eight of the "hole cars".  As you can see from the pictures, a couple of them are realistically able to be restored.  The ZR1 and the '62.  The others are very "iffy".  The destruction takes your breath away.
If you have a chance to get down there to see these up close, I would certainly recommend it.

Trip to 500 Miles
On Saturday July 5 Bill & Erika along with Bob & Barb got Jim & Shelley to take a long enough drive to finally get over the 500 mile break in point on their new C7. This was accomplished by heading up to Half Moon Brewery in Kokomo and taking multiple county and state roads to accomplish the task. As can be seen from Jim's IPhone pictures the main indicator is that the tachometer changes from yellow at the 3500 rpm mark to just a Red line at 6500. Of course getting to this point will not mean that Jim will have to drive any faster, but at least the car is now broken in. Once at Half Moon we were greeted by multiple Corvettes in the lot and found out that they were from the Mississinewa Valley Corvette Club and had taken part the Kokomo parade earlier in the day. After we were done talking with them we headed inside and proceeded to have way to much food, with everyone getting enough for meals at home. With the weather so great iit was a fun afternoon to take a drive and have a good meal at a great restaurant and finally get Jim past the break in point.

Unofficial Dine to Champps July 2
On Wednesday July 2, very late in the afternoon, Greg started calling around and got several members to meet at Champps for dinner. With it being so close to the dinner hour, it was too late to put an email blast out as a true Retiree & Hookey Player Dine, hence the 'unofficial' title  Since the evening was beautiful they decided to sit on the patio by the lake, and were surprised to have Vanessa wait on them. The group consisted of Greg & Donna B, Arminta & Doug I, Dick & Bonnie P, Bill & Erika L, all who drove a Vette and Bob Y and Jeff B who arrived in their metal cars. They had fortunately gotten to Champps early enough where the security group didn't need to card them for seats near the water, as Wednesday evening Champps has a band out on the patio. The band, fortunately, quickly tuned their instruments up or a table move would have been needed for the CI group. As the evening progressed towards the band's 8pm start time more and more of the younger set and a few cougars arrived. It was an interesting mix of people, as we stood in the parking lot and watched more coming in for the evening music. The Corvette group did leave before the band started, so a full account of the evening can not be given. Greg is considering though making it an every Wednesday evening event when the weather is good! Although Donna may veto that idea. The patio would be a great place for a meeting if the weather were good, only issue would be the limited menu available out there from the small kitchen. One bad thing would be NO Deserts available and not many of the $5 appetizers are listed either. It was a fun evening for a quickly called get together.

Champps June 27
With VERY little notice (around 11 am) Jeff B asked Greg B to see if anyone was interested in meeting for a 3pm late lunch on Friday June 28. The only ones able to make the late lunch besides Greg and Jeff were Jim & Shelley who basically stopped by to say hi as they had already had lunch and were going out to dinner later. Fortunately the waitress was very nice and took their picture to prove that it happened.

Miss Indiana Pageant Parade
On June 21, before heading to the Penske Car Show in the evening, John & Marg H took part in this year's parade by driving one of the contestants on the back of their C5. They were among an number of different convertibles in the parade.

Jim at the Detroit Grand Prix - May 31 & June 1

Our Indy Car Enthusiast Jim S was in Detroit for the 2014 Grand Prix held on Belle Isle, here is his report and pictures.
Detroit was a little warm and humid but I still had a great time.  Chevy schedules a variety of speakers and holds raffles.  Ron Fellows did a session on his driving school at Spring Mountain then gave away a certificate for a 3-day driving school.  I didn't win that one but did win a Hot Pit Tour.  The only bad part of the tour was the guides front and rear of our group.  They didn't let us explore.  It was still pretty interesting.  On Sunday I caught the Stadium Super Trucks race. These are off-road trucks that race on road courses with jumps added.  The crowd was really into this one - lots of oohs and aahs.  We got to do "parade" laps on both days. On Saturday I got it up to 85 and Sunday 92.  Sunday there was a slower car two cars ahead of me. The car in front of me passed him. Even though I'm pretty sure were weren't supposed to pass, I passed him on a short straight. I was so far behind that it took 5 turns to catch the pack.  Eventually there were a dozen cars behind me and the slow car was no where in sight.

Ferrari Show June 1

Member Rich P headed to downtown Noblesville to check out the Italian Sports cars. Very pretty cars, but we think most of the members would still rather have a new C7 sitting in their garage!

PictureJohn didn't touch!
Gilmore Museum

On April 27 Diana and John A visited the Gilmore Museum in Hickory Corners Mi.
Dianna note said "
No he isn't touching the Vette. Cool and windy but enjoyable day"
Looks like it would be a nice future club trip!

Bragdon Wetlands Park Dedication
Donna B with her mother, Dorothy Bragdon, her brother Ted, her daughter, Sheri, and various other relatives of the Bragdon family attended the dedication of the new Bragdon Wetlands Park in Lawrence, IN on Wednesday, April 30th. The ceremony covered by most of the local news stations announced the naming of the new park to be developed after a city wide contest was used to select the name. The Bragdon family purchased the land the park is on as a part of a 160 acre tract purchased in 1834. Lawrence was first platted in 1849 so the Bragdon family has played a role in the Lawrence area since its existence. The Bragdon Post Road garage was established in 1937 by Donna's Grandfather, was then operated by her father and is currently operated by her brother Ted.

Kokomo Opalescent Glass Factory Tour
On Monday April 28 three Corvette Indy couples, Jim & Bonnie S, Jim & Judi A, and Bill & Erika L headed to Kokomo for a tour of the KOG factory. This tour was planned by Bonnie as she is looking for various activities to take friends to while visiting over the Indy 500 week. This was an interesting tour of a plant that has been in constant production since 1888. In the early years they supplied Tiffany with glass and still repair old pieces. It is certainly worth the trip although parking would be very limited for many Corvettes. Also Half Moon Brewery is very close by for a meal afterwards.

Mutt Strut Walkers
On Saturday April 27 Jeff B and Halo made the trip to Indiana Motor Speedway to take park in the annual Mutt Strut along with several thousand other entrants. Halo and Jeff also got their pictures taken next to the C7 Pace Car and had a great day helping out the Charity.

Restored Duesenberg Factory Sign Dedication
On April 23 Barry attended the dedication of the restored Duesenberg factory sign on the Harding Street building.
This is where the cars were built and the building is now part of IndyGo.

Barrett Jackson Palm Beach

Long time member Jeff B was at the auction during the April 12 sale of the first new Z06 which Rick Hendrick purchased for $1,000,000.
As can be seen, Jeff got a great close up of Rick during his interview on the Fox Sports network show. It is also a great closeup of the newest iteration of the Z06 which have CI members dreaming about owing.

Hot Rod Restoration & Truck Styling Show
John & Diana A attended the show on March 28 under the All-Bright Detail Banner
.
Corvette Diner - San Diego CA
While in San Diego during mid March Mike and Linda T found a great theme restaurant!
Looks like a great place for a Drive N Dine, but a bit far to go in a day!
Thanks Mike & Linda for checking it out

Ganassi Race Shop
On Saturday March 15 Barry attended the Ganassi Race shop open house along with member Jeff B and club friend Gary S.
The Open House was to raise money for the next Indy Honors Flight in 3 weeks.
It was a self guided tour of their facility.
Fortunately for Barry - member Betty W was quick with her camera while watching the channel 13 news that evening to capture his attending. Other members had also seen Barry's TV minute of fame during the newscast.
