Chocolate Moose - Farmland, IN
DRIVE ‘N DINE # 1 IN THE BOOKS
The first official Drive ‘n Dine of the 2013 driving season is in the books, and we had a “Moose” of a time!
A lively group of 16 club members in 9 cars headed out from Fishers on Saturday afternoon, heading east for a lovely, leisurely drive through farm country just starting to show the signs of awakening from a long winter’s nap. [Note to Greg B: although we tried really hard, we never managed to hit Mule Barn Road on this drive!] A slight delay in our start was needed after Bob and Barb stopped for gas but couldn’t seem to find the entrance to the Fishers McDonald’s. They drove for 2 miles around parking lots trying to find the entrance, which should be noted was directly across the street from the gas station. Led by Susie H. & Terry, our group included Pam & Jim K., Greg T., Jack H., Bob & Barb Y., Pat & Carole H., Jeff “Super Kid” B. and his guest Charity,
Jim “No Letter” & Shelly N, and Jim & Bonnie S. (who were scribe and photographer along with Jeff for the trip)
Our destination was “The Chocolate Moose,” an old-fashioned soda fountain type restaurant located in historic Farmland, Indiana, east of Muncie. We can confirm that The Chocolate Moose is a trip! Filled with old-timey decor and lots of moose-inspired memorabilia, the restaurant is locally owned, and prides itself on serving great diner food at reasonable prices. Their most famous menu item is a tenderloin sandwich which starts with locally-produced tenderloin marinated overnight in buttermilk, then lightly breaded and grilled (never deep fried). Several members gave it a big thumbs-up. They also offer a variety of old-time phosphates, like the lime-flavored “Green River” and a grape “Purple Haze.”
This was a great start to our 2013 Drive ‘n Dines. Thanks again to Susie and Terry for leading us to this fun, delicious restaurant.
