2018 Drive N Dunk

Drive N Dunk aka Cars & Coffee or Cars & Corvettes!
What has become our generally most attended event, other than meeting nights, the McAlister's South of 96th Street continues to be 'the' Saturday morning place for both men and women members of the club to gather. One never knows who will show up and which along with which Corvettes will be there. The morning events usually begin at around 9:00 and go to near noon depending on the crowd and how many Corvettes or other cars there are to view and how deep the discussions get. Members even drive their 'metal' car to the event to be a part of the group in all types of weather year around.
Conversation among Members and other car enthusiasts is always interesting and lively. With a number of tables inside for their coffee and discussions the members have even morphed in to separate guys and gals tables with discussion topics suited to each.
Enjoy viewing the different Saturdays of 2018 on this page and who got out on a Saturday morning

Another dreary day at McAlister's. Despite that, Shepp drove his Corvette.  As always the conversations we're lively. We had a good turnout including a guest of Jimmie D. Again thanks to Jim S for pics and recap of he morning.
12/22/2018
Another dreary day in Indiana.  Despite the weather, 3 Corvettes ventured out.  We said goodbye a week early to our waitress. We learned that she turns 17 in a few days and plans to join the National Guard.  We need more young people with her work ethic. Thanks to Jim S for the pictures and report.

12/15/2018
A cold, windy and rainy morning found a large number of Corvette Indy members gathered for coffee and conversation.  Topics were all over the place.  There was sadness regarding the delay in the release of the C8 due to electrical problems.  Thanks to Jim Shaver for the report and pictures.

12/08/2018
A smaller than usual group this morning but as always the conversations were lively and varied. Most were looking forward to the annual Christmas party.

12/01/2018
Jim's comments were: On an extremely WET day with NO Corvettes in the lot, another lively morning for Corvette Indy at McAlister's. Most of the usual suspects were there plus Mary's granddaughter at the ladies table.
Keith sent in pictures & comments on Sunday: Congrats to Fresno State Overtime Win at the "BLUE" football field. Which Jim S replied Those of us who are Fresno State alumni refer to the field as “Smurf Turf.”
11/24/2018
A mild but dreary day found not a single Corvette in sight today at McAlister's. That didn't keep many away. The group had an overflow at both the men's and lady's tables. Thanks to Jim S for pictures and notes from today.
11/17/2018
Another excellent turnout for our weekly gathering at McAlister's.  Five brave souls even brought out their Corvettes after the Thursday ice storms.  As a special "treat,' we even had a couple of our members who are off cruising the Caribbean join us via FaceTime. They were hoping to get a point for "attending" but the Competition Director said no.
Thanks to Jim Shaver for the day's write-up and pictures along with Bill R's pictures of Jim.

Saturday morning saw a good turnout at McAlister's. Even though the sun was shinning, there was light snowfall.  In addition to the metal cars, there were many Corvettes on their way to the annual Veterans' Day Parade.
11/03/2018
Great turnout of Corvettes and members on what might be getting near the last days of driving a Corvette for this year. Lots of the usual conversations and general fun of the Saturday morning gathering. Thanks to Jerry C and Bill R  for sending in the day's pictures.
10/27/2018
More metal cars than Corvettes on a damp morning

10/20/2018
The weather in Indiana finally turned fall-like; cool and gusty. Good turnout this morning with many conversations. It is always a good time at McAlister's Deli on a Saturday morning, especially when you drive your Corvette.

A crisp but clear day brought out a number of Corvettes to the every Saturday morning event.
Thanks to Jim Shaver for the day's pictures.

10/06/2018
The sky cleared and 15 Corvettes made it to Corvette Indy’s Drive & Dunk at McAlister's Deli this morning. Several of the folks were continuing on to participate in the brunch with the Herders at Ann's Restaurant in Franklin, IN. Ann’s was recently voted by club members to have the best tenderloin in Indiana. There were lots of lively conversations this morning covering a variety of topics. Today is a beautiful day to enjoy your Corvette.

There was a smaller turnout at McAlister's Deli this morning as a result of today's Butler parade and The Main Event autocross at the Grissom Aeroplex. One topic of discussion was the Westfield HS parade on Thursday and how it is getting tougher to safely do for members at the back of the parade.

This morning’s Drive & Dunk at McAlister’s Deli had a few surprises for everyone. First was the 15° temperature drop from yesterday morning; from t-shirts to sweatshirts. Next was an unfamiliar vehicle parked on the back row. The blue Toyota Camry was certainly out of place among the eleven Corvettes. Mary McConnell stopped by with her three grandkids to join the ladies. A visitor had stopped to look at the parked Corvettes. Larry Greenwalt and Bob Wilbert connected with him to learn he was curious to see if he could fit in one. That sounds simple enough, except this gentleman is 6’-8”. Jerry Croy invited him to see how he would fit in their C6 convertible. It was very tight. His head was touching the convertible top. C6's seem to accommodate taller people better than the other generations.

A Sunny Day brought out a good crowd of members and their Vettes.

09/08/2018
No Corvettes this morning. The rainfall in Central Indiana continued all day Saturday and into Sunday. The Zionsville parade was cancelled as were all NASCAR Brickyard 400 track activities at IMS. The rain did not dampen the conversations at McAlister’s. It was a fun and always informational gathering.

Even though the summer is winding down, there are still plenty of things for Corvette Indy members and guests to enjoy. One is the Saturday morning gatherings at McAlister’s Deli, 96th and N. Meridian Street. Folks meet regularly to talk about a multitude of relevant and not so relevant subjects. One thing does not change; the camaraderie of Corvette Indy folks who like to have fun. Thanks to Jim A for pictures & report

Small crowd this morning with inclement weather as the big issue this morning - not a good start for those participating in or attending the Carmel Artomobilia car show. Nonetheless, the group enjoyed coffee, light breakfast items, and interesting conversation at McAlister’s Deli. Jerry C talked about the recent Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise while others talked about last weekend’s CI car show and the Retiree & Hooky Players Drive and Dine to Parky’s Smokehouse in Lebanon. Thanks to Jim A for the pics and info.

Drive N Dunk Attendance was off somewhat this morning as two car shows were also taking place elsewhere; the Circle City car show at the Hamilton Town Center, and the Princess Theatre car show in Rushville. Those in attendance were surprised to see Mary arrive with her new-to-her Tesla. She offered drives to those who were interested, including Jimmie D. Those who did take the Tesla for a short drive around the block were amazed at its smoothness, lightening quick acceleration, and the regenerative braking system. Thanks Mary. Some of the conversation this morning included the good time at Greg and Donna’s deck party on Friday evening.

Today presented other wonderful summer morning for Corvette Indy members and friends to gather at McAlister’s Deli, 96th and N. Meridian Street. Seventeen Corvettes and about 20 CI members enjoyed a morning beverage of coffee, tea, or a soda, and a light breakfast. The conversation is always light and humorous. Corvette owners are always welcome to attend and join in the fun. The group normally meets every Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:30.
. Thanks to Jim Alvis for the day's pictures and write up and Keith for additional pictures.

This Saturday was a very busy day for Corvette Indy members. It first began with the usual Drive & Dunk at McAlister’s Deli. Tom and Nancy arrived in their one-week old Admiral Blue Grand Sport, giving several of us the opportunity to check it out. Following coffee and conversation, most made their way to Penske Chevrolet for the cookout for employees, and then on to the Indy Classical Glass car show at the former Marsh parking lot at 116th and Keystone. There was also another contingent that had headed to Grissom for the Hoosier Corvette Club's autocross to either compete or work the events.  It was certainly a very busy morning on a beautiful day.

Most of the Saturday morning regulars at McAlister’s Deli were participating in the Southern Indiana overnighter to Rising Sun. The light mist probably discouraged a few, however John V, Bill S, Greg T, Wylie E, Keith R, and Jim A did uphold the weekly tradition. As expected, it was pleasantly quiet.

Another large gathering at McAlister’s Deli this morning. A lot of the conversation centered around last evening’s Beach Boys concert at Conner Prairie. In spite of the high temperatures and humidity, folks enjoyed the music and Corvette Indy camaraderie. This evening is the Christmas in July Hawaiian themed party at the Carmel American Legion Post. It has certainly been a busy weekend.
The additional pictures are from Jim S, who along with John V decided to make the trip down to IMS for today's Cars N Coffee. They ran into Alan C who was already there. As always there was a fascinating variety of cars on display.

It must have been the spring-like coolish morning that resulted in a very strong turnout of Corvette Indy members and one guest. Twenty-three Corvettes and about thirty people enjoyed the Drive & Dunk at McAlister's Deli. We had a visitor this morning, Tim and his 1975 Corvette T-top coupe. Al F. showed off his brand new Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck from Penske Chevrolet. Al and a couple other members will be attending the Shiner Pride Car Show, sponsored by the Rising Sun Band Boosters and the City of Rising Sun, IN Sunday, July 8.

Weather was HOT which had a great group of members heading to McAlister's for the early Saturday morning get together. Over 20 Corvettes in the lot, including a friend of Larry's with his new ZR1, for everyone to check out. Conversations ran the usual gamut including plans for the gathering on Sunday at Village of West Clay, Monday's meeting, Tuesday's Bridgewater Parade, and of course a long time club favorite of the July 4 Carmel Parade. If you can't find something to do with your Corvette and the club this coming week you are not trying.
Jim Alvis sent in additional pictures and his usual succinct report of the morning's activities:
This morning’s Drive & Dunk at McAlister’s Deli was very active. Shep showed up with his latest purchase, a silver C7 Grand Sport convertible recently owned by John Valentine. Last week, John appeared with his 2019 red Grand Sport. That’s what you call keeping it in the family. A long-time friend of Larry Greenwalt visited the group this morning with his one-month old ZR1. Needless to say, it was the focal point of conversations and viewing. A near record 22 Corvettes and 30 or so Corvette Indy members and friends enjoyed this morning’s gathering.

Strong turnout of Corvette Indy members at McAlister’s Deli this morning. Several left earlier than normal to head to IMS for the last day of Bloomington Gold for 2018. As it turned out the weather was very pleasant.

There were a lot of car related activities going on this morning, and a surprise from Greg. He brought in a cake to celebrate his and Donna’s 51st anniversary of their first date, a blind date at that. Greg sliced it and shared with everyone in attendance. Some members with convertibles were going to participate in the Miss Indiana parade in Zionsville. A few others were headed to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to experience the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association’s annual visit. It is a wonderful event to see and hear the older sports cars as well as the high-tech cars in the current Trans-Am series. Next weekend, Bloomington Gold at IMS.

06/09/2018 - Addendum

Jim A got most of the pictures but here is one more.
Greg T drove through some rough road on his way this morning. He heard a clicking sound but drove on. When he got to McCalister’s he stopped and restarted the car. Huge knocking sound. This rock had somehow managed to lodge itself between the frame and one of the front pulleys. Several of us tried various means of removing it. Somehow we managed to push it backwards and it fell out.
Thanks to Jim Shaver for the additional info...

Even though the turnout this morning was lighter than normal, the levity was definitely at or above normal. Several regulars were off to the Crawfordsville Strawberry Festival and 18th annual Corvette Car Show. June is probably the busiest month of the year for Corvette Indy activities. Friends and guests are always welcome to join the Saturday morning Corvettes & Coffee at McAlister’s Deli, 96th and N. Meridian Street. Thanks to Jim Alvis for the report & pics.

Here is Jim's short but very concise report and pictures:
Nice turnout this morning for the weekly Saturday morning Drive & Dunk gathering at McAlister’s Deli. A few were absent having chosen to attend a car show or the Indiana Region NCCC speed events at Putnam Park. As usual, the conversations were wide, varied, and entertaining.

On a warm Saturday morning the usual group met for deep discussions and other usual story telling. Several had their tops down, but soon headed out to put them up as rain did look like it might be coming. Around 10:30, as the group broke away with several headed to the Traders Point for the track day caravan, Ross pulled in with his latest acquisition. Yes he does know it is not a Corvette, but is trying to turn it in to a C3 in the next few weeks.
05/19/2018
Even with threatening weather predicted later in the day a good group was at Drive N Dunk before heading off in different directions. Some headed to Griots Garage for the tech session while other headed to IMS or Hoosier Corvette Club's Spring Fling Car Show. Track day event is on Sunday with 24 Corvettes signed up to go.
With Jim A on vacation thanks to President Ray for today's pictures.

05/12/2018
Several of the Saturday morning regulars were missing this morning. They were participating in William and Sharon’s Go Kart Extravaganza at the New Castle Motorsports Park, the Justin Stienwachs’ Memorial Car Show in Knightstown, or activities at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The rest of us had our normal good time discussing many ‘intellectual’ topics and enjoying coffee at McAlister’s Deli at 96th and N. Meridian Street.

Activities are finally picking up now that warmer weather is making its way to Indiana. John V returned from the Michelin NCM Bash where he enjoyed several laps on the road course at the motor sports park. He also shared other Bash experiences. Turnout this morning was a bit lighter as several regulars were planning on attending the Officer Pickett Benefit Car Show at the Boone County Fairgrounds or the Mushroom Festival and Car Show in Mansfield, IN. Next weekend brings more car shows and the visit to the Indiana Veteran’s Home in West Lafayette.

Big turnout this morning. The weather had a lot to do with it. Even though spring arrived a month ago, the warmer weather did not - until this weekend. More and more Corvette Indy snowbirds have returned to Indiana and eighteen Corvettes including ten ‘clock Charley showed up for Corvettes & Coffee at McAlister’s Deli. Once again, levity, good humor and strong friendships prevailed. A potential member attended his first club function this morning and was warmly welcomed. Jack is not new to sports cars having been a member of the Indianapolis Region of Sports Car Club of America for several years. Several members then headed to the Legion to join in the rallies being run.

Jim's report on a wet day with no Corvettes in the lot.
Levity (noun)  lev·ɪ·t̬i:  humor or frivolity, especially the treatment of a serious matter with humor or in a manner lacking due respect. This best describes the weekly Saturday morning Drive & Dunks at McAlisters. This morning we were treated to two potential Future Corvette Owners Association members, Al and Terri Forey’s granddaughters. Nothing is taken seriously at these gatherings, just lots of laughter and fun.

There was a very nice turnout of Corvette Indy regulars plus the two newest members at McAlister’s this morning. There were multiple conversations of varying degrees of importance that was enjoyed by all. Many were wondering if we would ever experience warm weather. In spite of the cooler than normal weather, a variety of Corvette events are rapidly approaching. Thanks to Jim Alvis for the pictures and reports.

Corvette weather can’t be far off as 14 showed up this morning at McAlister’s Deli, even with threatening weather. Over 20 Corvette Indy members participated in a variety of conversations. One of the conversations centered around the upcoming Mecum Indy auction and car auctions in general. Much to the amusement of several, Bob W. showed off his new flip phone. Corvette owners/guests are always welcome to join the group for coffee and light breakfast on Saturday mornings at McAlisters Deli, 96th and N. Meridian Street, 9:00 to 10:30 am. Drive your Vette on nice days. Plenty of open parking. Thanks to Jim Alvis for the pictures and day's events.

The inclement weather this morning and the prospect of measurable snow resulted in a smaller turnout. That certainly did not dampen the interesting and varied conversations. Corvette Indy members and guests are always welcome to join the 9:00am Saturday morning gatherings at McAlister’s Deli, 96th and N. Meridian Street. Thanks for the write up and pictures from Jim Alvis who also commented: What an ugly day. A few of us participated in the RaceCraft1 simulators. That was fun. Be sure to check out the day's RaceCraft1 page. Group 2 at RaceCraft1 3/24

Every Saturday morning Corvette Indy members, guests and friends meet at McAlister’s Deli, 96th and N. Meridian from 9:00 to 10:30. It is a great time to have a light breakfast and socialize with friends. Today being St. Patrick’s Day, several members were dressed accordingly. John O’Vess received top recognition. Steve and Shelia Shepard were busy entertaining two-year old FCOA granddaughter Elizabeth. Any day you can drive a Corvette makes it a better day. Not surprising though with the damp weather there were no corvettes this morning.
Thanks to Jim Alvis for the pictures and the weeks write-up.

Very nice turnout of Corvette Indy members and friends at this morning’s Drive & Dunk at McAlister’s Deli, 96th and N. Meridian Street. It’s a great way to begin the weekend with hot coffee, tea, light breakfast items, and plenty of light and varied conversation. Corvette Indy members and guests are always welcome. Drive your Vette on nice days.

This is more like it. A sunny and clear morning, warming temperatures, and more daylight brought out ten Corvettes this morning and about 25 Corvette Indy members. Many had attended Tom and Nancy’s wonderful pre-spring party the prior evening. More Corvettes will be coming out of hibernation as the temperatures continue to warm and the snowbirds return from the south. Ten o’clock Charley’s clock must have malfunctioned because he arrived shortly after 9:00 this morning. As always, it was a great time to socialize with our Corvette Indy friends.

Very soggy outside but dry inside at this morning’s Drive & Dunk gathering at McAlister’s Deli. It began by singing Happy Birthday to Allen F and presenting him with a ‘special’ birthday cupcake, complete with a French fry. Several technical discussions took place on the south end of the table. That’s the beauty of belonging to an active Corvette club – sharing of information with one and another so all can understand and enjoy their Corvettes. The weather forecast for next Saturday (March 3) looks promising, so hopefully a few Corvettes will show up as drier conditions are on the way. Thanks to Jim Alvis for the report and pictures.

The cold and dreary morning did not discourage 25 Corvette Indy members and four Corvettes from participating in the Saturday morning gathering at McAlister’s Deli. Bill S. showed off the latest addition to his C7. He had Indy Pro Graphix of Whitestown install a Stingray graphic and 460HP lettering on the hood. Several members commented that it was tastefully done. As usual, lots of conversation and laughter kept everyone entertained. Thanks to Jim Alvis for the day's photos and write-up.

Keith R. drove his C6 to Drive & Dunk this morning in spite of questionable road conditions. Several members reminisced about their experiences at RaceCraft1 on Thursday. Thirteen members alternated among 5 racing simulators and concluded with a 16 lap head to head race on an oval. They had a great time and would like to do it again. Corvette Indy members and guests are always welcome to attend the weekly Drive & Dunk gatherings at McAlister’s Deli on Saturday mornings, 96th and Meridian Street, 9 to 10:30am.

Corvette Indy members and friends are always welcome to meet at McAlister’s Deli, 96th and N. Meridian on Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 10:30. Lots of socializing and laughter always prevail. This morning Jerry C sat away from the group to conduct some important business. Some of the conversations included the upcoming Super Bowl, and the disappointing results of the Rolex 24 hour endurance race last weekend. Going into the race it appeared the Corvettes had a good chance at victory, however IMSA’s Balance of Performance was clearly in favor of the Ford GTs as they finished first and second, two full laps ahead of the third place #3 Corvette.

Corvette Indy members John V and Steve H were back from the Barrett-Jackson auction last weekend with lots of stories about the cars and people. John V also participated in the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School at Spring Mountain. He had lots of interesting information to share with the others. Among many other topics of discussion this morning was the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona that begins today at 2:40pm ET. Corvette Racing kicks off its 20th season of competition with this weekend’s event. The #3 Corvette is gridded 1st in class and the #4 Corvette starts 6th in class. Good luck Corvette Racing.

Much to everyone’s surprise, Alan C had his C6 out for some exercise this morning. The main roads were clear and dry, but many neighborhood roads were snow covered and slick. Conversations included the upcoming Barrett-Jackson auction of serial number #001 of the 2019 ZR1 this evening, next weekend’s Rolex 24 Hour endurance race at Daytona, and racing simulators. As usual, Corvette Indy members, friends, and guests are always welcome to join the fun on Saturday mornings at McAlister’s Deli, 96th and Meridian Street. The group gathers from 9 to about 10:30.

It was warmer but still cold compared to last Saturday morning. The roads were in reasonably good shape after yesterday’s rain, sleet, and snow. Lots of conversations going on, some of which included the Barrett-Jackson auction next week, and the Rolex 24 hour at Daytona on the 27th and 28th. At least two club members will be attending the auction. The highlight of the B-J auction will take place on Saturday night when the 2019 serial number 001 ZR1 will be auctioned as well as a new ford GT. Chances are pretty good that Rick Hendrick will be the winner. If you have a chance, notice Rick’s bidder number – it is 427. Ray has been busy preparing for his first club meeting as president Monday evening at the Carmel American Legion. All in all, it was another fun and entertaining Saturday morning gathering of Corvette Indy members at McAlister’s Deli.

The first Drive & Dunk of 2018 was far too cold and the streets were in no shape for Corvettes this morning. Mark R wore his new Carhartt Overalls and John and Marg H were nicely dressed for an important function. Lots of very informative and enlightening conversations prevailed. Our group of Corvette Indy members sang Happy birthday to Brenda and shared some chocolate cake. Meanwhile, Corvette Racing is participating in the Roar Before The 24 at the Daytona International Speedway this weekend. It was 39° at Daytona earlier this morning. The ‘Roar’ gives all teams the opportunity to prepare for the most prestigious sports car endurance race in North America on January 27 and 28, the Rolex 24 Hour at Daytona. Go Yellow C7-Rs!!
