2017 Drive N Dunks

Drive N Dunk aka Cars & Coffee or Cars & Corvettes!
What has become our generally most attended event, other than meeting nights, the McAlister's South of 96th Street continues to be 'the' Saturday morning place for both men and women members of the club to gather. One never knows who will show up and which along with which Corvettes will be there. The morning events usually start at around 9:00 and go to near noon depending on the crowd and how many Corvettes or other cars there are to view and how deep the discussions get.
Members even drive their 'metal' car to the event to be a part of the group in all types of weather year around.
Conversation among Members and other car enthusiasts is always interesting and lively. With a number of tables inside for their coffee and discussions the members have even morphed in to separate guys and gals tables with discussion topics suited to each.
Enjoy viewing the different Saturdays of 2017 on this page and who got out on a Saturday morning
12/30/2017
The sharply colder weather this morning did not deter some hearty souls from showing up at McAlister’s Deli for the final Drive & Dunk of 2017. Al and Terri F were there with their granddaughter Isabelle. Other than the weather, topics of conversation included the Indianapolis Auto Show, driver’s school at Spring Mountain, and looking forward to warmer weather. As always, it was an entertaining morning.
Thanks to Jim Alvis for the pictures and reports through out all of 2017
12/16/2017
For mid-December, we lucked out again weather wise.
It was pleasant enough that ten Corvettes showed up at McAlisters.
12/09/2017
No Corvettes today as a light snow swept down from the northwest. Conversations were wide and varied and included tonight’s annual Christmas party at the American Legion Post #155 in Carmel and golfing at Top Golf. Thanks to Brenda and her staff at McAlister’s for taking such care of us at our Saturday morning gatherings.
12/02/2017
What started out as a pretty routine Corvette Indy Saturday morning Drive & Dunk at McAlister’s ended up with Alan C’s freshly wrapped C6. The King of Bling’s black coupe had just been finished in a 3M Psychedelic wrap. Needless to say, the wrap attracted a lot of attention.  Eleven Corvettes and over twenty Corvette Indy members enjoyed another beautiful but cool Saturday morning. Thanks to Jim Alvis for the pics and write-up.

11/25/2017
A beautiful Saturday morning brought out 16 Corvettes and nearly 30 Corvette Indy members for the weekly Drive & Dunk at McAlister’s Deli. One member talked about having 77 family members at their house for Thanksgiving dinner. Other conversations included comments about our first bi-weekly club meeting at the Carmel American Legion Post #155. The next and final club meeting of 2017 will be on Monday December 4 at the Legion. Members are asked to bring an unwrapped toy to donate to the Legion’s annual toy drive for kids.

16 Corvettes at Drive N Dunk -- May have been the last opportunity of 2017
11/18/2017
There was a strong turnout of guys and gals at today’s Drive & Dunk. Metal cars prevailed as it was a dreary, wet morning. With the sudden but not unexpected closure of Champps on November 12, Wylie immediately began the search for a meeting location, especially for the two remaining meetings of 2017. Wylie, Ray Chester and Bill Lapham met and discussed possible options that could handle up to 100 people, good access to major highways, safe and ample parking for 40 to 50 Corvettes, and reasonable food prices. Wylie brought in a poster board with sections of the Indianapolis metro area. With the help of a few others, he was able to plot where most Corvette Indy members live. He will present the results to the membership at Monday evening’s meeting for member input and discussion, especially going forward into 2018.

11/11/2017
In spite of the much colder than normal temperature for the Veterans Day parade, there was a nice crowd of spectators who came out to show their appreciation to the veterans. As always thanks to Jim Alvis for the report and pictures. Corvette Indy also salutes all of the veterans all year long as well as on their special day.
11/04/2017
It was cool and overcast outside this morning but that did not deter a large gathering of Corvette Indy members and guests at McAlister’s. John and Marg H were collecting for the annual Christmas party on December 9 as well as seeking a head count for lunch following the Veterans Day parade on November 11. Election of officers for 2018 will take place at Monday evening’s meeting at Champps.
10/28/2017
The 35 degree temperature was not recommended for Corvette 'summer only' tires, so several left their cars at home this morning. In spite of that, we had a good turnout for the weekly Drive & Dunk. Only one parade remains for this year; the Veterans Day parade in downtown Indy on Saturday, November 11.

10/21/2017
Nineteen Corvette Indy owners took advantage of the unseasonably warm Saturday morning Drive & Dunk at McAlister's. Many were bemoaning the fact that there will be very few pleasant Saturday mornings like today. A few of the members were off to participate in the annual Butler homecoming parade later in the morning. Brenda asked for a photo of everyone standing beside their Corvette, so everyone was happy to do so. The result was a few still photos and a video by Ruth. Today was also Donna B's birthday, so she was treated to a 'stunning' version of 'Happy Birthday' by the Corvette Indy singers(?). Thanks to Jim A for the report and he & Bill R for the pictures.
10/07/2017
The turnout this morning was a bit lighter than usual. Several of the regulars were attending Griot’s Garage first-ever Caffeine & Gasoline® cruise-in, car show and open house in Plainfield.
09/23/2017
Charles B surprised everyone with his recent acquisition, a 1970 big block convertible. It drew quite a bit of attention, especially the 454 engine. Jerry and Elaine had their grandson Michael with them this morning. Michael is a FCOA member, and loves Corvettes, especially red ones(that's because grandpa has a red Grand Sport). Eighteen Corvettes made it out this morning following a busy Thursday and Friday with high school parades. Tom P participated in all three parades. Thanks to Jim Alvis for the report and pictures.

09/17/2017

Saturday's weekly 9-11 AM Drive N Dunk at McAlister's had special guests; club members Jim & Shelley Noelle had breakfast with us before heading back to North Carolina after their trip to Door County the past week.
09/09/2017
Another beautiful Saturday morning and a busy day ahead. The turnout was a bit light, however other Corvette Indy members and friends were participating in the Zionsville Fall Festival Parade, the Mississinewa Valley Corvette Club's car show in Kokomo, or the Westport(IN) Kiwanis BBQ and Car Show. Much of the conversation this morning centered around hurricane Irma heading toward Florida. If the devastation hurricane Harvey was not enough, now it is Florida. Our thoughts and prayers are for the safety and well being of all of those affected.

09/02/2017
With the Holiday coming up the group was a bit smaller but just as exuberant as any weekend. Also visiting was Rich Peters checking things out and getting the latest news. He and Machelle are in the process of moving to an area outside Washington D.C. in the next few days. It was nice to see Rich and we wish both happiness and success in their new endeavor.
08/26/2017
It was the fourth or fifth spectacular Saturday in a row for Corvette activities. Several of the regulars were participating in other car shows today, including Artomobilia in Carmel and the Princess Theater Car Show in Rushville. Conversations included road construction and roundabouts in the Carmel area, and last weekends Corvette Indy car show at the American Legion. Have a great week going into the Labor Day Weekend.
08/12/2017
There was a slightly smaller crowd this morning due to at least two local Corvette car shows. None the less, the group had a great time. Linda W and her mother showed up with Linda's recently purchased C6. Greg and Donna were off to hand out Corvette Indy car show flyers for next weekend's Corvette Indy car show at the Carmel American Legion.

08/05/2017
The beautiful morning brought about 20 Corvette Indy members and friends to the weekly Saturday morning Drive & Dunk at McAlister's Deli. Several others headed to Penske Chevrolet for the summer cookout for their employees. The main topics of discussion this morning at the Drive & Dunk were a review of last weekend's trip to Northern Indiana and the Indy Classical Glass Car Show. Our own Dick Pacetti won his class and Best of Show with his immaculate 1992 C4. The weather last weekend and this weekend was fantastic for August – pleasant and low humidity.

07/15/2017
A good group at the morning get together before the evening's Christmas In July party.
07/01/2017
Fifteen Corvettes and their proud owners showed up at McAlister's Deli this morning. One Corvette Indy club member was especially proud. Tom P displayed his new red/red 2018 Grand Sport convertible he picked up from Penske Chevrolet the day before. To no one's surprise, it drew a lot of attention. Bill R discovered the driver's side fit just fine, now he has to convince Cheryl the need for one. Today was also Brenda's daughter's birthday, so the gang sang happy birthday to her. Ruth was also treated to a face plant in a birthday cake. Much of this morning's conversation centered around busy events from June, and upcoming events in July, including the Bridgewater parade today, and the Carmel parade on Tuesday, July 4.
06/10/2017
It was nice enough this morning to sit outside on McAlister's patio. Our group was joined by a new member and a perspective member. We were also joined by Greg and Donna's granddaughter who is a FCOA (Future Corvette Owners Association) member. The turnout this morning was lighter than usual due to several members participating in the Crawfordsville Strawberry Festival car show, and others staying the night in Nashville following an evening of entertainment at the playhouse.

06/03/2017
It was a perfect Saturday morning for Corvette Indy members and friends (22 Corvettes) to gather at McAlister's Deli for the weekly Drive & Dunk. It was so pleasant that folks gathered in the parking lot for conversation and car gazing before going in for coffee, tea, and light breakfast items. Club President Wylie arrived with his new-to-him C6 Grand Sport. He sold his very nice 40th anniversary C4 a couple of weekends ago, and now has the newer C6 Corvette for everyday events, saving the C7 for shows. A few of the usual members were also missing as they had headed out to Putnam Park to help with the Indiana Region Autocross held this weekend.
05/27/2017
In spite of the overcast morning, there was a nice turnout of Corvette Indy members, and one guest, a potential new member. Many were then heading to Traders Point in preparation for the caravan to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the drive around the track sponsored by Chevrolet & our dealer Penske and afternoon concert.
05/20/2017
Mostly metal cars for our regular Saturday morning get together.  As always the conversations were lively and varied.  A Mecum catalog made the rounds and a small group led by Al headed to the auction to check things out.
Thanks to Jim Shaver for the report and pictures.
05/13/2017
The beautiful Saturday morning brought out 17 Corvettes at McAlister's Deli for the weekly Drive N Dunk. Jerry and Elaine brought their grandson Michael with them as he is a Future Corvette Owner of America(FCOA). Elaine says he is very good at spotting Corvettes. Maybe one day he will have one of his grandfather's Corvettes. Kim C was showing off her recently acquired C6 upgrade from a C5, and Ross was showing off the recently detailed engine bay of his C3. Three Corvette Indy members(Linda W, Marian C, and Mark H)  headed to the car show at Bob's Garage in Westfield, while other C7 owners were going to participate in a lap around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course prior to the start of the IndyCar Grand Prix. Many thanks to Penske Chevrolet and the Central Indiana Chevrolet Dealers for making this event possible. The weather was fantastic.
05/06/2017
The rain moved out of the Indy area just in time for for Corvette Indy folks to gather at McAlister's Deli this morning. Many of the folks were gathering for the caravan to the 6th annual Vettes for Vets event at the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette. The event is hosted by Star City Corvettes and the Lafayette Corvette Club, and is the opportunity to donate needed items for the residents of the home. Following a short drivers meeting by Wylie, the group departed McAlister's to join the other participating Corvette clubs from Indiana.

04/29/2017

The heavy rain over night and this morning kept Corvette Indy members either at the Main Event autocross or staying inside out of the downpour. Charles B and Jim A were the only ones to show up at McAlister's Deli and were treated to Brenda's usual smile and good service. As car guys do, Charles and I reminisced about cars we owned and some of the not-so-smart things we did. It was the quietest Saturday morning Drive & Dunk either of us have experienced.
Picture
04/22/2017
The turnout this morning was down a bit, but not the enthusiasm and variety of conversations. Ross demonstrated that he had been sprucing up the engine bay of his 'new' 72 by the tell tale black paint on his left hand. Others were talking about the upcoming Main Event autocross next weekend and upcoming car shows. Most Corvette Indy folks will be working at the Main Event next Saturday April 29, so the Drive & Dunk at McAlister's will have less there.
Several of the missing Members Showed at the Hoosier Car Show

04/15/2017
Today was not a 'usual' Drive & Dunk. Three things caused a lot of conversation and interest. First, Ross G arrived with his 'new' 1973 red/red small block 4-speed roadster he acquired last Saturday. The guys were quick to carefully scrutinize it and offer their comments. 1973 was the last year for the chrome bumper Corvettes, exactly what Ross was wanting. It is very nice example, well above average condition for its age. The second item of interest were three absolutely beautiful pieces of cutting board made by Master Woodworker Steve H. Nobody would actually use them as cutting board; they are to be admired, not used. One is the outline of the State of Indiana, and each of the 92 counties contains wood that is native to that county. The largest of the three has a pronounced 3-D effect - beautiful. For several minutes, the ladies were occupied watching the streaming video of the birthing process of a giraffe calf. Terry A wore his Corvette Racing T-shirt, a memento from the Corvette Corral at the 12 Hours of Sebring last month. The weather was wonderful and the Corvette camaraderie was top-notch as usual. Quite a few members and friends were going to participate in the chocolate and pizza drive & dine to Greenfield this afternoon.
Bill Reynolds sent in the parking lot video.
Be sure to expand it to full size to see it.
04/08/2017
With everyone waking up to a cool but beautiful morning a number of members with their Corvettes headed to the weekly McAlister's get together. Conversations were plentiful and varied across both sets of tables. A few of the regulars were missing including Ross who was off to Chicago to pick up his newly purchased C3. Wylie got a demo ride from Jimmie who had just purchased new Michelin  A/S 3+ tires for his Z51. They are both impressed with the better ride and lower noise level than the original tires. Levi will soon be busy as more members find out about them. Another fun morning to start the weekend with a number of the assembled group that will later be headed to Kokomo as part of the DnD there in the afternoon.

This morning's turnout at McAlister's Deli was a bit lighter than normal because several folks were going to the Penske Chevrolet cookout. After about an hour, most left to head to the Penske dealership to help set up and serve lunch for Penske associates, customers, and visitors. The morning started out overcast and cool, but the sun returned and warmed things up considerably by noon time. In use for the first time were the new  Penske Chevrolet - Corvette Indy tens.  Members enjoyed doing the event as our thank you to Penske for being  a great sponsor.

A great turnout this morning with 15 Corvettes being checked out in the lot after the usual chatter at the tables where members had their early morning drinks and food. Besides the usual Corvette talk, the basketball playoffs and other sports were fully covered. Ross was flitting around hawking the 2017 club pins, and taking heat for his lack of a Corvette so far. There was also planning for upcoming events including the Penske BBQ next week and a possible trip to the Brown County Playhouse for a 50 - 60's show in June.

The cool, dreary morning did not discourage a good turnout of CI members, friends, and 6 Corvettes.
Next up is the bi-monthly meeting at Champps on Monday, March 20.
Thanks to Jim Alvis for the pictures and report.

A very cold but clear morning had 4 Corvettes make their way to the weekly event at McAlister's. The group inside did swell to the usual numbers of both men and lady participants, including the 'Irish Elf' celebrating his day early. The morning went quickly with lots of varied conversations across all of the tables.

With a skiff of snow and temperatures in low 30's only one Corvette ventured out this morning. But inside there was nearly a full house of members enjoying the every Saturday morning event with the ladies and men in their usual areas. Conversations were their varied lot depending on where you were located along the tables. Greg did show his renderings of the pop up tents that Penske is purchasing for us to use with our multitude events. They will be well used as this includes Main Event and Bloomington Gold Autocrosses, Penske Vettes for Vets Car Show, and of course our Penske Cookouts, along with other car shows that our members attend. The season can't get here soon enough as weekends are already filling up with club and other events that Corvette Indy members like to attend.

What a change in the weather from last Saturday to today. After eight or so abnormally warm days, February reality returned today with snow flurries and brisk wind gusts that made today unpleasant. In spite of that, there was another strong turnout of CI members and spouses who enjoyed Brenda's hospitality at McAlister's Deli.
Thanks to Jim Alvis for the pictures and report of the wet Corvette-less day.

With the weather headed into the 60's 16 Corvettes and over 30 members made their way to McAlister's for a great Saturday morning get together. Along with the usual group were a few members there to especially see Rich Peters off on his new adventure in the Washington D C area. To celebrate it Brenda, the McAlister's manger, had gotten a cake for the send off which was quickly consumed by the assembled group after a impromptu thank you speech from Rich. The rest of the morning had everyone engaged in the usual conversations including Wylie recruiting a number of the guys to head to Michigan for the Corvette on Woodward in August. Jerry already has some of the needed motel rooms reserved, but it now looks like more may be needed. The morning ended with everyone wishing Rich a successful new career and then heading off to enjoy their Corvettes on the beautiful mid February day!

With a day predicted to get in to the 60's Corvettes started rolling in to McAlister's before 9. They did encounter damp roads, but members that drove them felt it was worth the clean up time in the afternoon. As the morning progressed there were over 25 men and 10 ladies enjoying the usual talk around the tables. Brenda, the manager, said that next week she will start having the men sit where the ladies have been as she can set up more tables there. Who knows how many she will have to set up as the weather actually becomes Corvette friendly! With the Corvettes there her daughter Ruthie, who also works at McAlister's, got a chance to sit in Jerry's Grand Sport making her day.

It was certainly a lively bunch this morning. About 20 guys and a new track record for the ladies of 10 attending, but only one lonely Corvette braved the 20 degree but clear Saturday morning get together.
Greg added the following to Jim's pictures and report above; Great turn out on Saturday morning at McAlister's for the weekly 9-11am Drive N Dunk. The ladies table was able to solve many problems with Donna B, Kim C, Sherry C, Marian C, Londa H, Marg H, Mary M, Bonnie P, Linda W and Sherry W attending. The little boys table was well populated with Jim A, Greg B, Alan C, Ray C, Gary C, Al F, Ross G, Paul H, Steve H, John H, Dick P, Rich P, Tom P, Jim S, Charlie S, Steve S, Greg T, John V and Bob W. As usual the discussions ranged widely from politics to Corvettes to nonsense at the boy's table with the women discussing remodeling, gardening, kids, nuclear fusion and assorted other topics. All had a great time and Brenda and her associates went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Congrats to Rich P for being the only brave soul to drive his Vette to the event. Best wishes to Mike L who is recovering from surgery and to Wylie E who is having gall bladder surgery today.

One of the main topics of discussion this morning was Jimmy and Donna Driscoll's recent experiences at the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School at Spring Mountain Resort and Country Club. Jimmy brought in a memento of the experience, a traffic cone autographed by his instructors. He did manage to pick up a few cones during his track time, but they were not suitable as a souvenir. Needless to say, they had a great time.

Boy have the weather man predict dry and warmer weather and the Corvettes will start to come out of hibernation. This morning there were 5 that made the trip along with over 20 members enjoying the Saturday morning weekly get together at McAlister's. Discussions covered the usual gamete of topics from the previous day's inauguration to planning for spring and summer Corvette Indy events. Next Saturday is the winter party, which will also have a return to more typical January temperatures, along with probably less members bringing their Corvettes out.

The local weather forecasters did it again. For the past 24-36 hours they were predicting freezing rain and icy conditions, and encouraging people to not drive unless absolutely necessary. That spooked many people into staying home, and many did. There were about twelve that tested the roads this morning to find out they were wet but fine. The small group did show up at McAlister's Deli for coffee, tea, breakfast items, and the usual interesting and varied conversations. It is always fun inside, even when the weather outside is not to our liking. Thanks to Jim Alvis for this report and the pictures. Greg then sent in the following rendition of the morning:
A smaller than usual group of Corvette Indy members attended the Drive N Dunk this Saturday as many may have bought into the gloom and doom weather forecasts the local TV stations were shelling out to improve their ratings and to help empty the local grocery stores of milk and bread supplies.  In reality the roads were wet but well salted and the sidewalks at McAlisters were wet but not icy.  There was a light mist of rain falling so the weather guessers weren't all wrong but you had to look pretty close to find any ice.  The folks that did attend had the usual good time.  The topics ranged from intellectual (with Shep asking Greg how he was coming on his GED), to the fine arts (with the discussion of the previous night's Elvis concert), to fine dining (from the Friday night club invasion of Squealers for barbecue),  to medical ( with Donna's miracle laryngitis  cure now that Jim Shaver has taken over the Social Director role) and even some serious discussions of possible club trips and of several members that would be missed because they were moving to away from Indy for warmer climates or job opportunities.  The Drive N Dunk happens every Saturday from 9 to 11am when members and friends meet at McAlisters (96th & N Meridian) to start the weekend off with Corvette friends.  Guests are always welcome and Vettes are optional depending on the weather.

The first Saturday of 2017 was well attended even though it was 0 on the thermometer. The early morning group warmed up McAlister’s and had their usual lively discussions. Fortunately Jim Shaver took a few pictures with his phone to ‘prove it happened’ as he had not brought his camera along and Jim Alvis who usually documents the weekly event was not there. Be assured that only metal cars made it to the event too.
