2016 Christmas Party 12/10
This year's party was again at the Carmel Legion which was set up with plenty of tables and dance floor room for the nearly 120 members that attended. Prior to the evening the Habecker's had a small committee create the center pieces and the individual bottle gifts that were given to those who had sent pictures in. Fortunately they had the help of their neighborhood to supply the empty wine bottles in advance. The decoration groups met at 4:30 on Saturday to set things up and along with John & Marg Herder, who had taken care of the reservations, and were ready for the members that started arriving by 5:30 for the 6 PM open bar time. Among those arriving were our newest members that had driven up from Louisville for the evening! This year members were asked to bring an unwrapped toy to the party, which were being collected by the Legion for the Lutheran Child Welfare Services which assists families in Hamilton, Marion and other central Indiana counties. Underneath the Christmas tree started out bare but was overflowing by the end of the evening with the generosity of the club members. During the hour or so of mingling prior to dinner tickets were sold for a couple of items that Paul had brought to raise additional funds. With the buffet ready at 7, Wylie opened the evening with announcements and Paul gave a prayer and then read his Christmas Poem. Click on the link below to read it. After everyone had eaten their fill of ribs and chicken the karaoke singers took the stage to the delight of the assembled group. The group was warmed up with a song from the Legion manager’s wife and another by him then we were surprised with a visit from Santa! His visit was short, but he did drop off mini candy canes to all. The entertainment then resumed with Wylie and Charlie being first club members willing to sing. Then Al gave the group his rendition of 409, which was not the Beach Boys version. As the evening progressed Charlie got ‘backup singers’ Terri, Rita, Kim, and Linda to help out and later Greg & Donna joined in while others enjoyed the dance floor. With light snow coming down a number of the members had headed out by around 9 while the last to leave a little after 10 were serenaded by the sounds of ‘Hit the Road Jack’ as they went out the door.
