Parky's Smokehouse
The Retiree's and Hookey Players had a Drive n Dine on Friday September 23, the first day of Fall. The group consisted of Dean & Zoe, Jim & Bonnie, Dick & Bonnie, Greg & Donna, and they met at Bill & Erika's house for another start to a fun afternoon. Using the internet, Bill had found a new to the group restaurant called Parky's Smokehouse in Lebanon. A route was picked where we could again go by Stuckey's Apple Orchard for a resupply of apples, as those on the previous week's trip had already consumed their last purchases. Donna had an affinity for the Fuji apples, but none were available in the store. So Greg found that they could pick their own, and off to the orchard they trekked with Bonnie P. also going along to pick a couple of small bags of the desired apple type.
Once all of the purchases were made we were on our way again to Lebanon via IN 47 and then county roads. The day was nice enough for the top to be down on the ONLY convertible to make the trip, Bill did wear his 'hairy' hat to keep his head warm in the sunny but low sixty temperatures. The roads were smooth in the part of Boone county we traveled in, with the only obstruction being corn stalks on the road from early Fall picking. We tried to suggest to Greg & Donna that they stop and get a load of shelled corn to feed the deer, but since they had Donna's award winning car, they declined.
We did find the restaurant and they did have a number of parking spots, unfortunately most were full, but after circling the lot suitable spots were obtained. Once inside and seated a varied menu gave everyone a choice of what they could have for lunch. Lunch conversation varied from the fact that four of the five couples had moved to the area to be nearer family and grandchildren. The fifth couple said that their move back to the Indy area had been as much to bring their children back to be near the grandparents. There was also discussions of critters that had either taken up residence in cars or houses and how they were gotten rid of. On the subject of Greg's approaching garage build, the question was asked if he was he was doing the building himself. His response was 'do I look that stupid?', which no one responded to. But no, he is not doing his own building, and patiently awaiting permit approval for his builder to start. In the mean time he continues to line up garage space for the winter in case the project is not allowed to start in time.
Once lunch and conversation was done, we were back on our way home. Most took the easy route of IN 32 back to the North side of town where many reside. As always a good time was had by all, and the group is looking forward to another drive n dine soon. We are looking for more Hookey Players though, as today's group consisted of retirees only.
